Questions couples ask

Straight answers, in plain language

Ceremonies, traditions and working with Todd. If your question is not here, just ask.

Where does Modern Mazel officiate weddings?

Todd officiates throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York, across New England including Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts, and in Delaware. He has also led destination ceremonies in Mexico and Spain. Send your date and location and he will let you know if he is available.

Do you officiate destination weddings?

Yes. Todd has led ceremonies in Mexico and Spain, and Modern Mazel is available for weddings worldwide. Share your date and location to check availability.

How traditional does our ceremony need to be?

As traditional as you want it to be. Some couples want every ritual. Others choose a few traditions that speak to them and give them a modern voice. Todd walks you through what each one means so you can decide what belongs in your ceremony.

We come from different backgrounds. Can you create a ceremony for both of our families?

Yes. Many couples want a ceremony that honors Jewish tradition while welcoming a partner and family from another background. Todd will help you bring both together thoughtfully, so everyone feels included and the ceremony still feels like the two of you.

Do we need to know Hebrew or all of the traditions?

Not at all. Todd explains each ritual in plain language and shares the Hebrew with a translation, so you and your guests can follow along. The Jewish Wedding Essentials guide is a good place to start.

Will you help with the ketubah?

Yes. Todd can help you understand the ketubah, think through a text that fits your values, and lead the signing before the ceremony. Learn about ketubahs.

Can family and friends take part in the ceremony?

Absolutely. Loved ones can be honored in many ways, such as reading one of the Seven Blessings, holding a chuppah pole, or wrapping you in a family tallit. Todd will suggest options that suit your families.

Can Todd legally marry us?

Todd is a licensed wedding officiant. Marriage license rules vary by state and county, so he will point you to what you need to file where you are getting married.

When should we reach out, and what does it cost?

Reach out as soon as you have a date, or even a season, in mind. Every ceremony is personalized, so the best next step is to share your date and location. Todd will confirm availability and walk you through the details when you talk.
